Quite often there are certain products which require a unique shipping method not applicable to other products in the store and it would be good if there was a way of customizing the shipping options at a product level.
For example a printer may offer signage or vehicle wraps as a part of their offering, these products would typically need to be professionally installed. A shipping method for installation isn't relevant for other products in their store such as business cards and brochures and equally the shipping applied to those products (typically a courier service) wouldn't be relevant to some signage and vehicle wraps. Therefore being able to applied separate shipping options to those products would be invaluable.
Since this does not solve he issue we are having with customers selecting an invalid shipping option because of dimensions, will this step be required in the future? meaning will it effect our current products.
There is another reason why you would need custom shipping options. When an Item is of a certain size, for example, items over 48" are more expensive to ship and items over 96" are not able to ship. These are 2 areas that are very challenging to price shipping appropriately. Offering an option for oversized shipping would be a great solution.
Removed this post. I accidentally associated a feature release with the wrong item. This is the item that will be released tomorrow. https://aleyant.ideas.aha.io/ideas/PRESSERO-I-168
The ability to customize the shipping method will be close on our radar.
We wouldn't be able to add a shipping selection on the product page due to performance. Many subscribers use a multitude of shipping options and those options need connections with external services that take some time to load. This was all moved to a separate shipping for the checkout process years ago so we could improve the performance.
The only option I see for this to be implemented is to limit shipping methods for products when editing a product. This would also effect the checkout process. If any product with limited shipping methods was added to the cart then the cart items would need to be split into the multiple ship to interface so each product could have different shipping methods.
I hope the complexity here is understood. But I'll still take it to R&D to see if we can come up with a good solution.
Please provide any further commentary.
Thank you!
Yes this would solve many issues we are having on the customer experience side.
