On some competitive sites, the customer does NOT have to select the default sample text prior to entering their data. It is shown as gray and when new text is entered in that field by the customer, the grayed text is automatically replaced by the new text. On an update preview, any field that did not have any text entered, the default text is also cleared automatically.
This is more convenient for the customer and simplifies the customer's personalization of their order. This is especially important when there are a large number of fields to enter in order to place an order.
Currently in eDocBuilder the customer must select the sample data to delete it prior to entering their own data. Simply typing in a given field with the new data would be more convenient, as is the case on many competitive web sites.
A very typical use case is email when the @domain.com is entered automatically. You want the user to enter their email user name only.
In typical Forms, you can have "Placeholder" text, and "Default" text. Default usually stays in the field and needs to be overwritten, whereas Placeholder is something that disappears when a user starts typing. I agree - we should have that feature in our form fields, both in eDocBuilder and in Pressero forms.
This was brought up on the old user forums, and I had actually forgotten about it. I agree completely. An optional field to enter placeholder text for fields would be terrific!
I agree, a simple placeholder-text would be nice - or better yet, a choice for which kind is needed.
