I spend a ton of time making thumbnails, I would like to see if something could be programmed more automatically - but still look nice. For example, An image could use the PDF file, add a drop shadow, and make itself centered in a 3x3 square.
Just out of curiousity, what are you using to make your thumbmails? If it is Photoshop, you could create an action to automate that process. It isn't the same as fully automatic, but it works well for me.
