Unlink Asset when Product is Deleted

Currently when a product is deleted, any linked assets get relinked to a random product. This is concerning and causes confusion. If a product is deleted the asset should either also be deleted, or at the very least it should be unlinked from products and not assigned to a different product without our knowledge.

Thanks!

After further research, it is not actually attaching the orphaned asset to a "random product"; it is just showing the first product from the product option dropdown. This is just the dropdown preview and is not linking these assets to the product. It is confusing at first glance - it would be nice if it defaulted to a blank or placeholder, making it clear that the asset is not assigned.

I did not realize this was happening - This needs fixed asap - I have a lot of clean up to do. We have dozens of assets attached to one random product because if this issue.

This same behavior is happening in several of our stores. If this is occurring, it would explain quite a few conundrums we have had in the past few months. See ticket: 287-2D7217F1-0B0C
Please fix this so that assets become unlinked by default or are also deleted with the corresponding product, as Mr. Riddle suggests. It can even be a checkbox on your deletion warning pop-up: "Do you want to delete assets associated with this product?" or something like that. If yes, the asset is deleted from the site. Otherwise, it stays online but unlinks.

I wasn't even aware of this behavior. Definitely feels buggish to me and should be fixed ASAP.

Ideally there could be a checkbox on the product deletion screen indicating that you want to delete any attached asset files, but regardless they should simply become unlinked to any product as a default action.
