Currently, when a user has splits shipments of their order due to a product being set to ship separately, each item it broken into a separate line item for shipping method selection and address. This creates an undesirable user experience for the customer for the following reasons:
The shipping address and method selection dropdowns become available for every item, even when shipping to separate addresses is not allowed. This is misleading for the ordering user. The functionality also seems flawed, as you can only change the ship to address on the first line item in the. If you try to update the address from any other line items, it just reverts back to whatever item 1 shipping address is.
When integrated shipping is used and all items are shipping to the same location, but are shipping separately (due to warehouse location, vendor fulfillment, etc.) the total shipping cost is divided across the applicable products for that method and a portion of the shipping cost is displayed under each item. This creates confusion for the ordering users and is misleading in regards to the calculated shipping total.
For example: If I have 3 items in my cart and 1 of the items is shipping separately from an outside vendor. The total calculated shipping is $15, but the shipping method selection displays $5 under each item. This leads me to believe that if I remove 2 of the items, my shipping cost will be $5 total. Instead, the shipping cost is actually $12.
An addition to this is a way to mark a product as needing Over Sized Packaging. This is an issue with rigid items that are larger but light weight, like Large Format POP Signage.
