Many fonts include tabular numerals: alternate letterforms within the same font that are monospaced and, therefore, styled differently. This is easy to achieve in HTML with a style callout such as:

I am proposing the support of a new <font>, <span>, and/or <stylerun> styling parameter called "font-variant-numeric" that could be used like this:
<font font-variant-numeric="tabular-nums lining-nums”>1234</font>This would be used similarly to:
<font fontsize="24pt”>1234</font>
